Hypertension Committee of National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh observed World Hypertension Day on 17 May 2019 in Bangladesh as a part of worldwide observance of the day by World Hypertension League & International Society of Hypertension. To increase public awareness about the risks of hypertension & to promote preventive measures at various levels of society, different activities were arranged.
Awareness Seminar:
A general awareness seminar was held at the auditorium of NHFH&RI. The theme of the year was ‘Know your Number’. National Professor Brig. (Rtd.) A Malik, Founder & President, National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh (NHFB) presided over the seminar.
Mr. S. M. Rezaul Karim, MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Housing & Public Works, Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as chief guest. Professor Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, Director General, Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Dr. Bardan Jung Rana, Country Representative, WHO Country Office for Bangladesh, attended the seminar as special guests.
Professor Khondker Abdul Awal (Rizvi), Secretary General, NHFB delivered the welcome address. Vice president of NHFB Mr. SM Al-Husainy & Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury also gave the speech. A keynote speech was presented by Professor Sohel Reza Choudhury, General Secretary of Hypertension Committee of NHFB. Md. Serajul Islam, Vice President, NHFB gave vote of thanks.
There were about 500 participants from all walks of life in the seminar.
